Hey Hollywood, Could You PLEASE Shut the Fuck Up? November 12, 2008

During the presidential election Aisling and I talked several times about how we felt about celebrities endorsing certain presidential candidates. Politically, it made sense to both of us, but made us a little edgy about the idiots that would believe other idiots just because they are on television. I understood that Obama would likely win votes from including Hollywood in his campaign, and so I accepted it. Now, however, he has been elected so could you mentally challenged folk in Hollywood PLEASE Shut up?

A recent interview of the always (haha) eloquent Lindsey Lohan:

COLORED? Are you kidding me?  First of all I am sick and TIRED of EVERYONE referring to Obama only on his skin color (he is half white too you racist folk). Besides the fact that I am peeved at the media, now Hollywood is making it worse, and with terms that are commonly accepted as racist. Lindsey, I never thought you were intelligent, but please, be smart enough to stop talking. You wonder why you can’t get any contracts?

I am not saying that Hollywood is made up entirely of idiots, I am sure there are several semi-intelligent people out there. I still don’t think that using your celebrity to promote your ignorance is a good idea however. How about you talk about things that matter to you while appearing on national television: shoes, money, and sex (ahem…Lindsey).

Change Should Be Held Accountable Too November 5, 2008

I just want everyone to be cautious with how blindly they follow our incumbent president. I voted for Barack Obama along with more than half of America yesterday, and I do support many of his views. However, watching the incredible number of people in Chicago last night to see him shook me up a little bit. The presidents of the United States should not be super stars, and they should be held accountable for mistakes. Although this might naturally occur the longer Obama is in office, it makes me nervous that so many are blindly following him now.

I was an informed voter and based my vote (surprise surprise) on the candidate’s environmental stances. I researched and made sure that I was positive I was making the best decision for my country. The difference between me and the typical Obama supporter that I have met is that I am not blind. It seems like people have become infatuated with Barack Obama. I can’t say that I do not understand why they have become so attached however.

I only saw Obama in person once during this election season and that was in Beloit, Wisconsin. I tend to lean green and vote Democrat, and with my hatred for Hillary I had pretty much already decided to vote for Obama. What I found when I went to the rally was surprising however, I had not been aware that I was attending a motivational speech. This is how most of Obama’s speeches went throughout his campaign. I do think that inspiring Americans to change things is important, but besides voting for Obama we as Americans don’t actually do much changing in his plan. We are changed by him rather.

Perhaps I am too radical for democratic nominees, but I think if someone is going to preach change they actually need to change things, and drastically. Obama does have a democratic majority to work with now, so I think things will change-but I doubt they will change very much. Change in this country needs to happen from outside of the government because internal upheavals almost never work.

So here is my request. For those of you who voted for McCain: keep the Obama supporters in check. Make sure that they realize (and that the media covers) the fact that Obama is not the Savior of this country; he is a man, and a politician. Obama supporters I want you to take off the rose colored glasses that Obama provided to get your vote and to now concentrate on what he is actually going to do to change this country. I want you to speak up if it is something you do not agree with, and research it if it is something you are not familiar with. The only way this country is really going to change is if the average citizen starts to take a real interest in the happenings of this nation.

You can keep your change. November 5, 2008

The Morning After:  I spent last night angry, to the point where I couldn’t sleep.  I just can’t understand why people don’t see that Obama and his pals will be BAD for our country.  This morning, I’m still a little angry, but I’m mostly terrified about the direction this country will take in the next four years.  The Democrats have been handed Washington D.C., and they are at liberty to do whatever they want with it because they are the majority party.  Talk Radio Host Jay Weber wrote a list of 23 things that Obama (teamed up w/ Pelosi) has said he will do in office.  I have narrowed the list down to the top 10 things I am most concerned about.

1. Obama’s 95 percent tax cut for all Americans would turn the IRS into a new welfare agency. Forty percent of American families don’t pay taxes, so they’d receive yearly rebates, money they never paid in and don’t deserve.

2. Felons may get the right to vote nationwide. Democrats must figure felons are more likely to vote democrat, because they have been pushing this for years.

3. Obama has told Planned Parenthood that, as one of his first acts, he will pass the Freedom of Choice Act, which would overturn the partial birth abortion ban and overrule parental notification laws.

4.Obama promises to move us toward government run healthcare, even if he stops sort of proposing universal healthcare. He is promising a public insurance program modeled after Medicare and open to anyone of any income. According to the Lewin group, it could cause as many as 52-million Americans to move from private coverage to public entitlement.

5. Obama and Pelosi both want to increase the minimum wage to at least 9.50 an hour by 2011 and index it–tie it to the rate of inflation–so it will increase as inflation does.

6. President Obama will be appointing at least one, maybe two appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court.

7. Democrats in congress vow to attempt to reintroduce the Fairness Doctrine and stifle conservative talk radio.  Obama has said he has no interest in doing so, but if congress passed it and it ended up on his desk, would he sign it?

8. President Obama has vowed a quick troop exit from Iraq.  Pelosi and the anti-war crowd will hold him to it.

9. Obama has vowed raise the top income, dividend, and capital gains rates for ‘the rich’, increasing the cost of new investment in the U-S.

The things that affect me the most personally are increased taxes on small businesses, health care requirements and increased taxes on ‘the rich’.   The small business issue is a major one for me – I work for a struggling small business, my parents own one, and my boyfriend is trying to start one.   The health care requirements on companies will cause my 401K to get axed, and my company (as well as many other small businesses) to have to make cut-backs on the number of employees.  With the economy in such a shitty state, we need to preserve and help our small businesses thrive, not make it difficult for them to stay afloat.

Taxing ‘the rich’.  Since when is $42,000 a year “rich” ?  Now I don’t make that much money NOW, but I plan on making that much during some point in the next 4 years.  However, what’s the point of working to get a raise/new job that pays better if the ridiculous taxes set me back to close to what I’m making now?  I am FURIOUS that the government has the ability to take away MY HARD-EARNED money and give it to other people who don’t work for it.  That makes me disgusted.  The government is not here to fix your problems.  People have gone from being dirt poor to successful and rich by hardwork and perserverance.  Anyone can do that.  ANYONE.  So why should I be punished because some people don’t want to make an effort?

The next 4 years should be interesting.  I’m terrifed at the amount of blind faith that people have in Barack Obama.  I’m terrified that the number 3 most liberal Senator will turn this country into a leftist disastor.  I’m terrified of losing my job.  And most of all, I’m terrified of Michelle Obama’s wardrobe.

Here’s to the next 4 years of looking at Michelle’s ugly prom dresses and camel toe.
